We had a little impromptu stay-cation in downtown Indy last night. One of my girlfriends from NYC was in town for the night and thanks to her rad job she hooked us up with front row tickets to Janet Jackson. It was so much fun to catch up and do something different. She even brought surprises for me that her and one of my best friend's put together. They surprised me with my favorite bagels ( and they were fresh!), Tate's cookies from The Hamptons where I spent every summer Saturday for years, a cute little pouch from the Holiday Market at Bryant Park that we went to together every year for almost a decade, and a personalized Christmas ornament from the market for Mike and me. It was so thoughtful and so sweet and I felt so loved and not forgotten, even all these miles away. Adult friendships in major transient cities like NYC are special because...

Somebody stop me (or don't!). Mike would probably say yes, please stop her. I am on a decor high right now. I have an orange, vanilla, clove and fresh greens simmer (blogging it soon!) that has been going all day and has been filling our home with the most glorious holiday smells. We got our tree and decked the halls all.day.long. We listened to a special holiday album that reminds me of my Dad ( Beach Boys Christmas forever) and we had white russians for dinner. I am writing this from my couch while I sit in fuzzy socks and an old sweatshirt next to the intoxicating glow of Christmas lights. CLEARLY I have moved on to Christmas, but I wanted to share my Thanksgiving table first!

Obviously I love design, but I also really love entertaining and all that goes into making your guests feel special and pleasing their eye. Entertaining, especially...

Happy Thanksgiving, friends! I hope everyone is spending the day with loved ones and belly laughs and libations and all the yummy side dishes your pants can handle. I did not miss a single holiday for the first 5 years that I lived in NYC. My nieces were tiny and I needed that time with my family and that emotional connection. As jobs got more intense and Manhattan rent prices soared, I started to slowly miss some holidays here and there. I will say that I have never in my 32 years missed a Christmas at home in Georgia and I plan to keep that tradition going! One year I flew my mom up to NYC and we spent one of our best Thanksgivings eating a fancy dinner that someone else had to clean up, sitting 5 rows back at a Broadway play and getting to take in THE Macy's day parade together. I lived on 53rd st + 8th Ave at the time so we had prime seats. A...

Bringing the #localsilove feature back today to spotlight one of my favorite new spots on the north side. Friends, meet Shine Design's new venture, HOME. In their words,

"Shine Design HOME is the brick and mortar vision of Shine Design Interiors. HOME is a new interiors boutique located in downtown Fishers committed to bringing you innovative and meticulously curated design. Our goal is to help you live more beautifully and joyfully. Visit us and find out how our HOME can fit into yours.".

Besides hitting the Fashion Mall or a couple of shops in Carmel, I really have not found any home decor stores in the area that are carefully curated for the modern taste.  One thing I love about Shine HOME is that the goods feel like a mix of old and new. I can attest to their good taste because they even sell some of the same vases that I do! It is clear that th...

We celebrated my sweet friend Colleen's birthday over the weekend and her hubs let me take the reigns on decor. The dinner was held at the new Taxman Brewery and Restaurant in Fortville and man did they do a great job. We had 20 people and zero hiccups. The food was amazing and our server was wonderful! My friend Maddie is the events guru + GM at Taxman and she really showed us a great time. They have multiple private rooms, a semi-private area with a bar and an in-house pastry chef. If you are looking for a cool place to host your event, give them a shout and tell Maddie I sent ya!

Taxman has stunning exposed brick, fun modern art and glam chandeliers. The space does not NEED help, but you know me - I have to add a little touch. To me, restaurant events don't always feel personal and for this particular one, I wanted it to feel intimate and thoug...
