Abbey + Reed

Wednesday, October 4, 2017

Taking it back a bit to one of my August weddings. I met Abbey through her sister Ashley. I flowered Ashley's Indiana State House wedding back in April ( see those photos here) and it meant so much to me that Abbey also chose me. There is so much floral talent in Indianapolis that it is always a huge compliment when any bride chooses you, but even more so when it is the same family. It is a special acknowledgment of your skill and really just meant so much to me.

Originally from Indy, now living in DC, Abbey hired me before even meeting me! My kind of girl. She knew what she wanted and I really appreciate that in a client because I am the same way. I loved that she had a late summer wedding and wanted to bring in deep burgundy hues. We mixed locally grown dahlias with timeless white garden roses, long silk bouquet tales, and  my signature southern touch by using sword fern + willow eucalyptus to create that easy breezy front porch sittin' feeling. Abbey had her first look in her Dad's back yard and it is not just your average backyard, but  this amazing little garden oasis. The emotion captured by Maggie Hopen of Maggie Hopen Photogrpahy was so genuine and memorable. I love the moments she caught and I loved getting to work with her for the first time. She turned the images around quickly and provided them to vendors. Not all photographers do this and I understand both sides, but it is so appreciated when images of my work are shared with me for my portfolio and for me to look back through from time to time and really remember each one of these special days. Community goes a long way in my book! Abbey hired Emily Dusel of Emily Ventura Designs as their day of coordinator, but let's face it - there is A LOT more to that then just "day of" duties.  It was wonderful to know I could reach out to Emily at any time and get an immediate  response. This was my second time working with Emily, as she also worked on Ashley's wedding, and I heard both of them rave about how helpful she was and how low stress their wedding day was because of her. Vendor trifecta right there!

When I think back to my favorite parts of  Abbey + Reed's day, the first thing that comes to mind are definitely Maggie's photos of Abbey with her sisters and Dad ( get the tissue ready). The bridal party also ventured to my absolute favorite area, Zionsville. The cobblestone streets and brightly hued historic buildings made for the most adorable photos. Another favorite was the reception tables. Abbey named each table with a "special to them" place in DC and I added pillar candles with fresh greenery. Those unique and thoughtful gestures are the things remembered.

It was the most beautiful August day and I am so glad I could be a part of it.

Cheers to Abbey + Reed!
